International Taekwondo Day is celebrated every year on September 4th to commemorate the 1994 decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to add Taekwondo as an Olympic sport.
Taekwondo was first introduced to the Olympics through a demonstration that was held during the 1988 Seoul Games. The founder of Park’s Taekwondo Academy in Erie, Pennsylvania, Grand Master Park, had the honor of performing Taekwondo movements as part of the 1988 demonstration.
